Soap Formulas

This is a listing of our main soap base formulas. Unlike most soapmakers, we never settled on the perfect formula, and don’t believe there is such a thing. Different formulas are going to produce different types of lather. Some oils will make soap that will clean more aggressively, while others will be gentler on the skin. At 320 batches (and counting), our extensive testing confirms this. We may still add a new formula every now and then, but these are the main ones.

Please do not hesitate to try each formula. Each one is unique in some way and may especially appeal to your skin type. Note that as the seasons change throughout the year your skin may respond differently as well.

a note regarding our “Q” formulas…
I created our first Q formula in 2015, long before the 17th letter of the alphabet came to be associated with something else. Q was short for “Quad, Quadraphonic, Quaternary, Quartet” — Each Q formula would have exactly 4 oils, specially chosen, and this was my shorthand way to note that. Until we choose another name for this formula, this is where that came from.
